22-23 JUN CONCERT

Orchestras and Wind Ensembles

1:00 PM String Ensembles and Associate Orchestra

Maestros Eylar and Kyme close the CYS String Ensembles and CYS Associate Orchestra Seasons with a program guaranteed to please and dazzle listeners. Ensemble Director Kati Kyme will direct the Junior and Intermediate String Ensembles, with musicians ranging in age from 7-16, in exciting performances featuring music by Boyce, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Britten and Copland. The Associate Orchestra will feature our Co-Concertmaster Henna Lam, our violin soloist and winner of the Associate Orchestra Concerto Contest, who will perform the first movement of Saint-Säens’ stirring and passionate Violin Concerto No. 3 in B Minor.  The orchestra will close the season with Rossini’s Overture to La Gazza Ladra, the Suite from Video Games Live, arranged by Ralph Ford, and Aaron Copland’s Billy the Kid Suite, his 1939 masterpiece from his “Americana” period. Our concert is guaranteed to both thrill and delight you! Don’t miss it!

6:00 PM Chamber Winds, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Symphony

Our Wind Division final concert will be led by Maestros Anthony Lanzino and Pete Nowlen, and features a truly wide and eclectic variety of music for wind instruments. Maestro Lanzino will lead the Chamber Winds in works by Percy Grainger, Erickson, and Curnow, and under his direction the Wind Ensemble will feature works by Eric Whitacre, John Barnes Chance, and J.S. Bach. Maestro Nowlen inaugurates the first CYS concert featuring winners of our new Concerto Competition as flutist Henry Zhao performs Gabriel Fauré’s Fantasie for Flute, arranged for Flute and Wind Ensemble by Robert K. Webb, and soloist Kazutada Nakao showcases the alto saxophone in Paule Maurice’s Tableaux de Provence (arr. Alex Schillings). The Wind Symphony will also play works by Jennifer Rose, Joe Hisaishi, as well as the wonderfully engaging Mary Shelley Meets Frankenstein: A Modern Promethean Tango, by Erika Svanoe. There is something for everyone in this superb program!
