20-21 FEB CONCERT - ORCHESTRAS

Following the overwhelming success of the CYS Winter Showcase concert on December 20, Maestros Leo Eylar and Pete Nowlen will once again offer an amazing online concert experience featuring all seven CYS orchestras and ensembles. The February 21 concert features beloved classical favorites that will highlight the extraordinary talents of CYS musicians, ranging in age from 6 to 18. String Ensembles Director Kati Kyme’s ensembles will feature works by Mozart, while Rosita Amador’s Wind Ensembles will offer pieces by Bach and Delibes. The CYS Wind Symphony will divide into a woodwind choir for Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Folk Songs from Somerset, from his beloved English Folk Song Suite, and a brass choir for internationally-renowned contemporary Japanese composer Hayato Hirose’s Solomon’s Ring. A highlight of the concert will be the CYS percussionists performing A Dance on Three Legs by Andrew Balent and Just Like That by Josh Gottry, under the direction of CYS Percussion Director Artie Storch.  The CYS Associate Orchestra will perform the dazzling Finale from Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings. The CYS Senior Orchestra strings will present the final movement from Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence, and our program will conclude with the combined Associate and Senior Orchestra wind and percussion sections joining forces for a performance of Apotheose, the last movement of Berlioz’ Grand Funeral and Triumphal Symphony. Richard Wagner, upon hearing Apotheose, commented that he found passages “so magnificent and sublime that they can never be surpassed."

Be sure to join us on Sunday, February 21 at 2:30pm on our YouTube channel!

This concert broadcast will be free for all to enjoy on February 21, 2021, at 2:30pm Pacific | 5:30pm Eastern
