16-17 NOV CONCERT - SENIOR
Season Opener Concerts
Join Maestro Eylar as he ushers in our 65th year with the exciting world premiere of a brilliant new work commissioned by the California Youth Symphony and composed by award-winning New York composer Sunny Knable. Dedicated to the California Youth Symphony, Mr. Knable's Symphony no. 2 "The Great Expanse" is a virtuoso work of exquisite beauty, bold colors, and tremendous sweep and scope. Our opening concert also features our CYS Young Artist Competition Winner James Poe, performing Prokofiev's haunting and intensely lyrical Violin Concerto No. 1. Our program opens with the ever-popular Sorcerer's Apprentice, composed by Paul Dukas and immortalized in Walt Disney's original Fantasia. We will round off our season opener with Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances, the composer's final work for orchestra, completed three years before his death in 1943. Often considered to be Rachmaninov's magnum opus, this powerfully moving work will be sure to thrill and move you. Don't miss this very special concert series!
